History at The Polygon aims to develop our students investigative skills by providing the stimulus for them to ask questions and research the past. History is an interesting and inspiring study of different people, events, and changes. Our boys enjoy lessons which are taught using many learning styles to capture their attention and develop their inquisitive minds.
In Years 7, 8, and 9 all students learn History for two lessons of 40 minutes per week for 3 half terms of the academic year. For the other 3 half terms the pupils study Geography. The key concepts students learn are: chronological understanding; change and continuity; enquiry skills (cause and consequence), and interpretation and communication.
Homework projects are planned alongside classroom learning for those pupils wishing to have the opportunity to convey their creative potential and interest in History.
