Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL)
At The Polygon School we feel strongly about developing our pupils both socially and emotionally.
Each class group has a timetabled lesson of SEAL each week. The pupils follow a 5-year programme with each year focusing on a different area of social skills.
The main areas are:
Year 7 - Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem
Year 8 - Body Language and Conversational Skills
Year 9 - Friendship Skills
Year 10 - Assertiveness Skills
Year 11 - Transitioning into Adult Life
Throughout SEAL lessons there is an ongoing focus on emotions and how to express these in an appropriate manner. All work done in these weekly lessons is strongly supported throughout the rest of the school during the week.
We believe that acceptable social skills are crucial in achieving both at The Polygon School and in our pupils’ future, and that these skills can be taught!
