The Polygon at the Power Boat competition 2024

Power Boats

The QinetiQ Schools’ Powerboat Challenge 2024 was held at the Haslar Marine Technology Park in Haslar, near Gosport on Friday 15th November 2024.  QinetiQ is a leading global defence and security business, the maritime division is involved in a wide range of marine projects providing specialist advice on all aspects of design throughout the life cycle of a vessel. The QinetiQ Schools’ Powerboat Challenge is a chance for a team of up to five pupils (in Years 7 to 10) to design and build a radio-controlled model powerboat. They will then come to the Haslar Marine Technology Park to race their powerboat in QinetiQ’s large Ocean Basin facility. The event gave the pupils valuable experience in; receiving a brief, solving a problem and producing a working design that they then showcase at a regional level.

A quote fromm one of the Team:

"The day was really enjoyable and it help me with my team building skills, it didn't matter that we had problems with the boat as we fixed then all during the day.  The visits to the college were very interesting and it's opened my eyes to the types of things I could do at college."

A four boy crew and Miss Newman took part in the Power Boat competition 2024.  They have created a powerpoint (ppt) documenting; the design, build and testing process involved in building a power boat.  Please click on this link to view and scroll down the page to view the ppt.
