Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL)
At the Polygon School we aim to develop the underpinning qualities and skills that help promote positive behaviour and effective learning. Throughout the SEAL lessons pupils will have the opportunity to focus on five social and emotional aspects of learning, these include:
Year 7: Self-Awareness and Self Esteem
Year 8: Body Language and Conversational Skills
Year 9: Friendship Skills
Year 10: Assertiveness Skills
Year 11: Transitioning to Adult Life
In addition to exploring topics above, pupils are encouraged to participate in activities and group discussions regarding managing their feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills.
We believe that embedding these qualities into the curriculum allows pupils to develop skills such as understanding another’s point of view, working in a group, sticking at things when they get difficult, resolving conflict and managing their worries. We continue to build on effective work already in place through our whole-school ethos, initiatives such as peer mentoring, and the taught personal, social and health education (PSHE) lessons.
