Curriculum

At The Polygon School we have developed a curriculum to meet the individual needs of our students which provides them with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to be successful and progress positively to their next steps.

Many of our students join us following a disrupted or challenging period in their education, making re-engagement with learning a key priority within our curriculum.

We design pathways that are carefully tailored to meet the individual needs outlined in each student’s EHCP. By capturing their interest and imagination, we aim to foster a positive and supportive learning environment where every student feels included, understood, and valued.

To help overcome barriers to learning, we take a relational and trauma-informed approach. Personal development is embedded throughout our curriculum, helping to build students’ confidence, strengthen trust in staff, and support the development of essential life skills both in and beyond the classroom.

Our curriculum is designed to inspire students by nurturing curiosity, promoting aspiration, and opening doors to new possibilities. We place a strong emphasis on developing cultural capital, ensuring students have access to enrichment opportunities that broaden their horizons and build their confidence in the wider world.

Through meaningful employer encounters, we help students explore future pathways and raise their ambitions for life beyond school. We are committed to improving reading and oracy, recognising them as essential skills for learning, communication, and participation in society.

We believe that all our students can achieve, while recognising that each has unique needs, strengths, and starting points. Our aim is to ensure every student is well-prepared for their next steps in life. To support this, we have developed a carefully sequenced curriculum that offers a range of appropriate academic qualifications, while also prioritising personal development. Our approach enables pupils to know more, remember more, and do more, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive both now and in the future.

We actively celebrate success, academic, personal, and social to build self-belief, encourage resilience, and foster a strong sense of pride and achievement. Ultimately, we aim to instil a love of learning and a mind-set geared towards lifelong learning.
