The Friends of The Polygon School is a formally constituted group of volunteers that raise funds to support activities that enhance the pupils’ education and development. Monies raised by the Friends have supported a wide range of events held at the school over the last 4 years, such as our summer music day which welcomes people from our community into the school and provides an opportunity for pupils to both listen to and perform music. We have funded complementary therapies such as hand and head massages for pupils and their families. The Friends also raised funds to contribute to any international trips the school takes. Previously, this has included funding passports and subsidizing the cost of the trip for some families.
Pupils and staff are encouraged to present ideas for fund raising activities to The Friends, and to participate in a varied annual calendar of fundraising events which include our famous annual quiz night (usually held each January), community open days, summer fairs, and St. George's Day celebrations. These events are designed to be enjoyable for our pupils and also enhance their experience of school life.
The Friends Association has been supporting The Polygon since 2006 when two parents and the Southampton Voluntary Services Community development worker established its constitution. Any parent/care with a child at the school automatically becomes a member of the Association when the child is added to the school register. Other professionals, neighbours and colleagues also support by serving on the Committee or acting as a Trustee. Members can take part in a way that suits them, from helping generate ideas to running events.
