The Mayflower Story - Sensory Sacks!

What would it be like to sail across the world 500 years ago?  What might you take with you? What would you see?  What would you hear? Join the learning team to collect and create objects you might find on your journey, then design and print your own sea-themed bag to keep them in.  These sessions are designed to be relaxed and inclusive and your children are welcome to join in with as much or as little as they want to.  We hope that the whole family will find something you enjoy!

A (Smelly!) Southampton Christmas Through

Time

SeaCity Museum

Find out what Christmas was like years ago and… what it smelled like!If that’s not your thing, don’t worry. You can also use a pestle and mortar to grind your own herbs and spices, make a pomander, and other traditional decorations and create a snowy Southampton scene. These sessions are designed to be relaxed and inclusive and your children are welcome to join in with as much or as little as they want to.  We hope that the whole family will find something you enjoy!

How are these sessions being made safe during C19?

  • Spaces are limited to three family groups or ‘bubbles’ of two to five people per session. If you have booked but are unable to attend, please do let us know as soon as possible so that another family can attend.
  • Families will be seated together with plenty of space in between.
  • Each family will have their own resources and materials which have been sanitised or quarantined in advance
  • The workshop leaders will wear clear visors and we ask that adults and over 11’s wear face coverings unless exempt.

How do I book?

Please email SCC’s Cultural Services Team at museums.education@southampton.gov.uk  and let them know the following:

  • The session you want to attend
  • The number of adults and children attending
  • Any information you think it would help us to have about yourselves, including children’s ages
  • Confirmation that one of your group is a MAX card holder
  • A contact number and email for yourself
  • Whether you would be able to attend an afternoon session on the same day should the morning session be oversubscribed

Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.  SCC will email confirmation of your place as soon as possible along with full instructions on what to do on the day. If you have any questions in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact them using the email address above or by calling 023 8083 2810.

Dates for your Diary:  SCC is also trialing relaxed family openings at SeaCity on Sat 7th  Nov and the Gallery on Sat 16th Jan 2021.  More info to follow. Watch this space!
