    Wilding Schools Project Update

The school has been working with SOS-UK on a plan to re-wild up to 30% of the school grounds.

A group of students have completed some work on our local habitat and the types of problems that they encountered. They have come up with a plan of action and we have been lucky enough to be supported by a £3000 grant.

The first thing we are doing after Easter is putting a hedgehog tunnel down to see whether we have any visiting hedgehogs, or if any other animals visit the school. The students will be able to identify the animal species by looking at their footprints which will be left on the tunnel paper.

Over the next year, the school will be putting up bird feeders and nest boxes around the school grounds as well as adding a hedgehog house and some bat boxes.

The students will also be planting insect and bee friendly plants around the school and a herb garden will be created.  In addition, we also hope to dig out an area and put in a 10m long raised bed which will have plants and flowers blooming throughout the year.

As you drive into school there will also be some trees added to the grounds and hopefully Cherry blossom will be seen next spring.
