Job Vacancy for Form Tutor and Cookery Instructor

Form Tutor and Cookery Instructor at Polygon Specialist School

 

Fixed Term Contract 01-09-2021(or as soon as possible) to 31-08-2022

 

Do you have experience working in catering or hospitality or a deep interest in healthy food?

 

Are you willing and able to be the form tutor for up to 7 boys aged 12-14 years in a key stage 3 tutor group?

 

Do you believe you can work successfully with boys who have complex neurodevelopment disorders such as ADHD / FASD / PDA / PTSD / ODD /Sp.LD / ASD or developmental delay?

Are you an organised person, able to keep your head in a crisis?

Can you motivate and support a young person to prepare and make meals from source ingredients?

Do you know how to grow vegetables and to use what is grown in a cooking programme?

Can you empathise with chronic social difficulties, and yet keep firm professional boundaries?

Are you able to follow a prepared curriculum pathway to ensure our pupils get their best result from a GCSE Food Technology course?

The Polygon School is a specialist school that supports, educates and helps to make a difference in the lives of 70 boys and young men with social, emotional and mental health issues.

 

This post is expanding our team for one year, to ensure that our pupils get the best possible start in life.

 

The successful candidate will be working alongside a Support Assistant for most of the school day but will lead the tutor group, ensuring pastoral responsibility for a specific group of 7 pupils.

 

The post is offered on a one year contract in the first instance and is subject to annual review. It may be of interest to a new graduate who is considering a career in education, or to an experienced person looking for an interesting career change.

 

It is offered on Unqualified teacher rate of pay.

The work will involve leading cookery classes; following the GCSE Food Technology curriculum pathway with key Stage 4 pupils, and ensuring that within year assessments take place. Support will be provided for this by the staff team.

There will be a requirement to uphold all safeguarding procedures and school internal recording processes, to participate in meetings, and to make written reports to a good standard of English.

 

The post will be for 32.5 hours per week, term time only.

 

Starting time 08.30 hrs. Finishing time 15.30 hrs during the school term times

Salary Grade: Unqualified Teacher between £18,169 and £28,735 dependent upon qualifications and experience.

 

Starting date: 01-09-2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
