During this academic year we have added a weights room to our school and put it to great use already.
The Weights Room at Polygon has been put together for a couple of main reasons; firstly, to support the Key Stage 4 PE curriculum for the Level 1 / 2 VCert Course. When the boys get to Key Stage 4, their examined PE course requires a deeper understanding of training plans and different types of fitness and the Weights Room allows us to show a more generalised overview of weights training as well as to provide a more detailed, personalised training plan as they build up to their PE coursework and exams in Year 11.
Secondly, to continue to show the boys what sports or fitness activities they can get involved in beyond the four walls of Polygon. Throughout the PE curriculum in Key Stage 3, fitness is woven into the lessons generally and as a specific unit every year to get the boys ready for their Key Stage 4 PE lessons, but also to get them ready for their lives beyond Polygon and to give them sport and fitness experiences that they can take on at College or home when they leave.
Moving forwards we will be offering it as one of the activities sessions and after school clubs. A Wall of Fame has been added for inspiration to our pupils.
