In the Spring School Council meeting we were joined by Andrea Faustino, Chair of Governors. She spoke to the council about the role of the governors and the part they play in the school. She also spoke to them about any changes they would like to make to the school grounds if they were able to. Pupils suggested more outdoor play equipment and painting the current school benches to add some colour to the outdoor areas.
After the meeting Andrea made a successful application for a grant of £200 for the School Council to spend on realising their idea. Pupils priced up and selected colours for the wood paint and paint brushes. Once that was completed there was a small surplus that they decided to spend on a raised planter and plants.
Mrs Newman kindly purchased the materials for the pupils and we have already set to work on painting the benches. They have also put the planter together and planted some small plants. A couple of pupils views were captured:
OC – “They are really cool and more people have started to sit on them.”
TL – “It was nice to do something for the grounds and is good that we have done it ourselves.”
