  • A Message from the Headteachers of Southampton’s Schools and Colleges

    Tue 14 Jul 2020

A message from the Headteachers of Southampton’s Schools and Colleges

Teachers and support staff in Southampton’s schools and colleges would to take the opportunity the end of term gives to thank the city’s parents and carers. With very little notice, you stepped up to the volunteer role of home tutor. You have worked alongside us to continue the learning journey for our city’s young people. Many of us are parents too, and know what a struggle it has been alongside everything else that’s gone on to keep the city’s children learning. Every hour of learning that has taken place will have made a positive difference to their futures.

We thank you for your partnership.

These last few months have shown that there is no substitute for a normal school routine. We are delighted that, alongside the rest of the nation, we can re-open from September for all pupils. We would like to remind all families that the expectation is for all students to return to their school in September.

We know that some children may be anxious about coming back after so much time away. We want to let you know that we understand. School and college leaders across the city, supported by our colleagues at the local authority and in liaison with Public Health England South East, are working hard to get ensure that our re-openings happen safely. Our ambition is to deliver as full a curriculum as we can for all young people whilst continuing to minimize the risks posed by the coronavirus.

At the moment, the infection rates in our region are low, and for that we’re grateful. However, we remain vigilant and ready to act if this changes. There will be changes to your child’s school experience for a period of time. We appreciate your support as we make and communicate these changes.

It’s important to remember that every school and college is different, both in terms of the communities they serve and the sites that they occupy. It is inevitable that the way we make these changes will depend on our unique set of circumstances and comparisons between how schools approach this would be impossible.

Whatever it looks like, our common aim is a safe education for all.

We hope you have a safe and sunny summer and look forward to seeing you in September.

The Polygon School will re-open on

    Monday 7th September for KS 4 & Year 7  at 11.00 hrs.

  • Letter from the Headteacher

    Thu 02 Jul 2020

    Monday 1st July 2020

Dear members of the Polygon School community,

It is wonderful that we are welcoming back more pupils this month. We now have almost a third of pupils back into regular attendance. For pupils who are still shielding, our on-line lessons and home-based work packs are still available.

The Governors have taken steps to ensure that those people using the school building are as safe as they possibly can be.

Temperatures will be taken from every person entering the building. Those with a high temperature will be returned home.

Children moving around the building will be limited, with most pupils spending the majority of their lessons in the same classroom.

Pupils will be issued with personal equipment for writing and drawing, to try to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

An additional member of domestic staff has been employed so there is a continual cleaning presence for all communal areas throughout the day.

    Social distancing will be practiced.

Hand washing will be an expectation at the start of each lesson.

On Tuesday 14th July and Wednesday 15th July, between 10.00 and 2.00 pm we will be holding a wide range of fun workshops for pupils (and their parents) to participate in.

    These include:

~ Creepy-crawly mini zoo             ~Art and Craft workshop

~ Looking after yourself with a Health MOT (have your blood pressure and general fitness checked) and the opportunity to have your nails cared for.

~ Making a birdhouse                 ~ Sports with Saints Foundation.

~ Come and try the new Outdoor Gym equipment on the school field.

Year 11 Parent / Carers will be invited into school for the Leavers Assembly at 1.00 pm on Friday 17th July

The staff are to be commended on their professionalism throughout this difficult time. I hope you feel that they have worked together to ensure that you have felt supported.

Please keep checking the school website for messages.

Above all, stay safe. Anne Hendon-John. Headteacher
