  • Year 10 work experience

    Fri 24 Feb 2023

In February 2023 the Year 10 pupils participated in our annual Work Experience. Nine pupils went off site to a variety of placements across Southampton and the surrounding area.  For our pupils to participate in work experience it is a huge experience, breaks down comfort barriers and puts them in new social experiences to increase self-confidence.

Work Experience placements form a part of our ‘Employer Encounters’ curriculum which is a wider part of our Careers Related Learning Programme. Research has found that pupils that have “meaningful encounters” with work places are more likely to enter and stay in a successful career, raise their aspirations and less likely to become NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

This year our pupils worked in Mechanics, Retail, Maritime, Education and the Care Industry. We received highly positive feedback from the employers involved with offering placements to our pupils and may have returned to school asking to do further or extended placements.

  • Parent Governor Nominations

    Mon 06 Feb 2023

Have you ever thought you wanted to know more about your sons school and education, well now we have an opportunity for you to do so.  We are seeking two Parent Governors to join our team of School Governors.

To be a parent governor you should have:

    • A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
    • Good inter-personal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills

No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work.

Governors play a vital role in running the school.  It is a great opportunity to get more involved in the school community, to see how the school works from the inside, and to build a stronger understanding of your child’s educational experience.  Volunteering for public service as a governor can help with developing skills in teamwork, listening and questioning, which are attractive to employers and boost a CV.
